Human Flowers of Flesh
Ida is the only woman among a five-member crew sailing her yacht across the Mediterranean. After encountering the French Foreign Legion in Marseille, the crew – drawn by a strange fascination – sets out to trace this male stronghold. Rendered in sensual images, the journey continues from Corsica to Algeria. Much on this voyage, so poetically told by Helena Wittmann, remains inscrutable, with numerous subtle references to colonial history. A conventional narrative is replaced by fragmented impressions which repeatedly blur the boundaries between dream and reality. Set against a bewitching, summery Mediterranean backdrop, HUMAN FLOWERS OF FLESH invites viewers to drift along and explore.
